Emergency Preparedness
The municipalities of NBCPHA are part of the Health and Medical Coordinating Coalition (HMCC) Region 5.
This coalition has six core disciplines that engage in health and medical preparedness and response: Community Health Centers, EMS, Hospitals, Long Term Care, Emergency Management, and Public Health. These disciplines play a critical role in emergency preparedness and response in the region. Members of the coalition work closely with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) Office of Preparedness and Emergency Management (OPEM), as well as numerous local partners who are involved in emergency preparedness work.
The HMCC is facilitated through the Massachusetts Association of Health Boards (MAHB) and helps to better equip local health departments to prepare for and respond to emergency events.
Current projects of Region 5's HMCC include:
- Review of the Regional Emergency Coordination Plan
- Working with hospitals on surge preparedness
- Develop a preparedness plan, continuity of operations, resource annexes
- Regional health equity projects
- Annual Hazard and Vulnerability Analysis (HVA)
